How to Wear the Color of the Year
Each year the Pantone Color Institute announces the color of the year. This year for 2018 it is Ultra Violet. What is Pantone, anyways, you may ask?
Pantone got its start in 1963. Founder Lawrence Herbert created a system for identifying, matching and communicating colors for consistency across the print and textile design industries. His initial work led to the Pantone Matching System, a book that standardized colors across these fields. Pretty interesting, huh?
The facility studies how, “color influences human thought processes, emotions and physical reactions, furthering its commitment to providing professionals with a greater understanding of color and to help them utilize color more effectively.”
“Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future,” according to the Pantone website. With that being said this intriguing hue will be seen everywhere in fashion, design, and branding.
Ultra Violet is vibrant and bold, and I have 3 style tips to help you rock it beautifully this year:
Style Tip 1: Understanding the color wheel is one of the best ways to mix things up in your closet. For example, knowing that the color of the year is complimentary to a vibrant shade of yellow or a rich shade of orange allows for unique and oh-so stylish ensembles!

Style Tip 2: If you’re a neutral-lover but you want to rock this current color, then toss an ultra violet blazer or coat over for a stylish pop. Let the colorful third piece be your main focal point, but don’t be afraid to use the color wheel again for more variety.

Style Tip 3: For an easy, safe yet still stylish way to wear ultra violet, opt for a pair of colored jeans and keep the rest neutral and understated.
