NYFW: Carmen Marc Valvo SS16
By: Laura Foster
Even in the late afternoon, the stars were out. Carmen Marc Valvo premiered his Spring/Summer 2016 collection at the newest NYFW location, The Arc at Skylight at Moynihan Station. While I have never actively looked for celebrities, you didn’t have to look far in this venue packed with fashion legends, Iris Apfel and Patricia Fields, and movie stars, Alec Baldwin (family in tow), Vanessa Williams, and Whoopi Goldberg. It was clear this was a “can’t miss”, and I can honestly say, “It was that and more!”.
Thus, with dramatic lighting and loud beat the show began. Carmen Marc Valvo’s SS16 world is black, white, and red all over. From one stunning silhouette to the next this season was a prism of mod cuts, dramatic lines, pops of floral and a splash of color– an awe-inspiring season sure to leave you breathless.
This season the devil was in the details. His collection while being both zen and minimalist, was covered with ornate fabrics, rich texture, and sheer & leather detailing. While there was an unprecedented showing of black for a spring summer collection, when paired with the right hued garments, you’re sure to brighten even your darkest blacks! And his gowns were so lovely even Cinderella would think her fairy godmother had gotten it wrong in comparison.
